2 months already!

Today was a big day for our little girlie. She is now 2 months old, attended her first day of school (with Mommy), had a Doctor's appointment (I'll tell about that in a minute), got 2 shots and behaved like a pro, and finally attended her first staff meeting (also with Mommy & Daddy)! I wasn't planning to go back to work until December 1, but in talking to the lady who is doing the class where I am now, I felt the need to go ahead and go back a week early. Plus, I'm feeling good and Aubrey is doing so well with everything. At her doctor's appointment today we found out that she is off the charts in her height and weight. Her head measurement is in the 97th percentile. She weighs 14 lbs. 12 oz. and is 24.5 in. long. We have ourselves a BIG girl! =)

This morning before school...she would smile at me until she saw the camera then she would just stare at it, so this is how I captured a smile!

In Detroit

My parents were intending to take us back to Detroit on Saturday evening, however with revival starting for them on Sunday and them keeping the evangelists who were coming in on Saturday evening, it was going to make it really hard to get away, etc. So, Greg, Stephanie, Kaitlynn and Allison took us up there instead. Thanks guys! It was a fun trip!

I told my sister that now that we have Aubrey there's some payback needin' to happen! She has 4 kids which means I have changed TONS of diapers!!!!! Get it? One kid of mine vs. 4 kids of hers...mmm yeah. So, anyway, she was happy to start working on that payback. For me, that payback is nice...I'm not looking forward to other ways that I'll get it though...candy, loud toys, etc. =)

Happy 1st Birthday, Allison!

We had the privilege of being with our niece Allison on her first birthday. She is such a joy to be around...always happy and now on the go! My brother, Eric, also celebrated his birthday that day, however they had to leave on Wednesday and their birthday was on Thursday. Our nephew Ryan celebrated his 9th birthday yesterday. We had parties for them on Tuesday before Eric's family had to leave. You can see pics from that party at my sister's blog. So, Happy Birthday to Eric, Allison and Ryan!! We love you all!

Every now and then, when in Cayman, I get this urge for a Godfather's dessert pizza. We have a Godfather's in Lima, but of course not one here in Cayman. I hadn't had one in ages, so this time when we were home Adam, Aubrey and I went there for lunch one day and got the buffet...that included the dessert pizza. I was one happy gal! ...it's the small things... =)

Elliott really enjoyed watching, copying and playing with Uncle Adam.

While home, we made a quick trip down to Cincinnati to see Adam's brother and his family. We had a great time visiting together and eating at Buckhead. Elliott is getting so big and is absolutely adorable. He talks a lot and is quite a smart little cookie! Thanks for a fun time guys, we love you and look forward to seeing you again soon!!

We put in for Aubrey's passport a few weeks ago. They had to mail the application to the U.S. Embassy in Jamaica for processing, then a few weeks later it would be mailed back to Cayman. It ended up coming just in time. The funny thing is this: Aubrey already looks different from the picture, and the passport is good for 5 years. So, I'm not sure how believable the passport will be for identification 4 years from now. But whatever works...

A family shot in the airport in Cayman. The place was nuts, as Hurricane Paloma was bearing down on us. It was kinda fun watching cocky jerks trying to muscle their way into getting the ticket they want and the airport employee putting them in their place. It made me chuckle.

On the airplane. I think this was on the flight from Cayman to Atlanta. We ended up with three seats to ourselves, which made for a comfortable trip. Aubrey did extremely well on both flights. No fussing, no screaming, etc. A great little traveler.

finally some good news!

Val went to the doctor today for the third time this week. I have now developed quite a friendship with the receptionist. I digress... The doctor reopened the wound and found no infection, which is reason for no small celebration! Val still has to stay on the antibiotics until they're gone, which will be sometime this weekend for one and early next week for the other.

Dad was up and around today. I think he set a new record for the hallway sprint. Not really. But he did walk to the bathroom twice I guess during the day. We weren't able to spend much time there this afternoon, as we had Val's appointment at 3:20 and I needed to prepare for youth tonight. But Mom stayed there most of the evening.

I deserve an award of some sort. Val and Aubrey rode with me on my second bus run today, as Val needed to be dropped off at her appointment. I had to reroute my run to get her there on time. It ended up that I dropped her off with most of my kids still on the bus. A hungry Aubrey stayed with me. So, I did what any good multitasking father would do. I fed her her bottle. While driving. A manual-transmission van. In traffic. In the rain. In Cayman with the horrendous drivers who live and unfortunately drive here. I was hoping she would not gag, need to burp, spit up, etc. But, like the good trooper I have trained her to be, she persevered. Drank the whole bottle. A heavy drinker. I like that in a girl.

Well, it's off to see the wizard. Farewell.

quick update

Another long day... and it's only 8:25. Here's a pic (not too flattering of Aubrey) of Aubrey with Grandma at Grandpa's hospital bedside. We went over there after the bus-run today, then left for Val's checkup, then went back afterwards. Val still has some infection, and was put on another antibiotic tonight. I guess this one is stronger than the last one. No breast-feeding now until she is off the antibiotic, so that's a bit frustrating, but hopefully this will knock the infection.

Aubrey (her appointment was yesterday) is growing like a scarecrow on a hefty diet of straw. She'll be six weeks old tomorrow, and weighed in yesterday at 12 pounds, 14.5 ounces. She is also 23.25 inches long. Both are in the 97th percentile. So she's kinda big. A nurse at the hospital tonight said she looked like she was a couple months old. So yeah. She's smiling quite a bit now and has even giggled a few times. Definitely the joy and main attraction of our household.

Dad is recovering well. The doctor came by tonight and mentioned that they will get Dad up and walking some tomorrow. Dad liked this idea... I think he's getting tired of laying in bed. It's been since 11:30 yesterday morning... besides when he had his feet operated on more than a decade ago, I don't think he's ever been still for this long. He was coherent today, and remembered nothing from last night. He responded and all last night, but we figured he wouldn't remember a thing. Today he could talk to us and was feeling better. On the long road to recovery.

We're looking at some stressful days ahead, but what's stress other than proof that you're alive?

Just a quick update on Dad... some of you probably don't know, but he had a colonoscopy last Monday, during which the doctor found a growth that he figured was cancerous. After further tests, etc., he found it that it indeed was cancer, and Dad went through a CT scan and an MRI this past Friday to see if the cancer had spread. It hadn't, and the doctor wanted to operate today. So, Mom and Dad headed for the hospital this morning and began the process of getting Dad through surgery. Val and I were able to get over there this afternoon around 1:45, then had to leave to go to Val's appointment with her doctor at 2:20, then back to the hospital around 4:00. Val's appointment was to remove an abcess, so that meant outpatient surgery. Before that, we had Aubrey's 6-week checkup that included a shot for her. So, a painful day to be a Profitt. Anyways, we spent the rest of the evening with Mom and Dad in the hospital. Dad came through surgery fine. The doctor was very pleased with the results of the surgery and said he had no surprises while operating.


Dad was still very sedated tonight, complaining of pain before the nurses upped the amount. He answered our questions and small talk with nods or shakes. When we left, he was resting comfortably.

Thanks to those of you who have been praying. God doesn't always answer with a miraculous wowing touch, or even a successful surgery, but we know that whatever the outcome, we can find support and strength in the sovereignty of God and in the prayers of His people.
